Research Data Scotland (RDS) works in partnership with the electronic Data Research and Innovation Service (eDRIS) team at Public Health Scotland to guide researchers through their applications for data access. RDS has developed and continues to support the end-to-end digital Researcher Access Service, while eDRIS colleagues work with researchers to guide them through the process.
Researchers will continue to work closely with the eDRIS team to prepare their applications for data access. The main difference from previous years is that, for projects eligible for the RAS Approval Pathway, the application process will be digital. Guidance on preparing a full application through the Researcher Access Service is available.
eDRIS also continues to support projects that require approval from a Public Benefit and Privacy Panel (PBPP) but these applications will follow the same procedure as before.
After you submit an enquiry, the eDRIS team will evaluate your proposal's feasibility, provide a cost estimate, and issue an application reference number. If the proposal proves feasible and the costs are accepted by the researcher, the eDRIS team will work closely with you to develop a final application and submit it to the appropriate panel.
When an application is approved, eDRIS will prepare your project data, working closely with key organisations such as data providers and trusted third party indexing services. Once the data is ready, the eDRIS team will support you with data access to the Scottish National Safe Haven.
